Poplar Lumber Characteristics

Availability:

Poplar is widely available in lengths ranging from 8 feet to 16 feet. The widths can range from 3 inches to over 12 inches. Shipping less than 150lbs we will cut to lengths of eight feet or less to meet UPS shipping guidelines.

Workability:

On the soft side it is easy to work with by hand and machine. Due to its softness it is prone to leave fuzzy surfaces when sanding and shaping. It has a slight blunting effect on cutting edges. Cutting edges must be kept very sharp to avoid a wooly finish. Poplar is more commonly is as a paint grade lumber although it can be stained. It glues, nails and screws well.
